As Christmas approaches, we are seeing the signs of the holiday everywhere, with Christmas lights dotting the landscape and trees glowing in many windows.
But there is another sign of Christmas in our community: the small paper angels denoting the opportunity to give a child a Christmas to remember.
The Christmas Project is an undertaking larger than many people may even realize, and this year may be larger than ever. With more and more people in need this holiday season, more and more children will be hoping for a gift from Santa Claus.
We all have the opportunity to be one of Santa’s elves. Those Christmas angels are available in several places in Brewton — at Walmart near the pharmacy entrance, at BankTrust’s branches in East Brewton and northside; at Bank of Brewton’s north branch and at Regions Bank on Douglas Avenue.
If you can afford to help, what better way to introduce your children to the true meaning of Christmas, and to breathe new life into your own holiday spirit.
The elves who help with the Christmas Project every year deserve a huge thanks, from the chamber representatives and volunteers who help organize and sort gifts to the civic groups that even shop with children for toys.
This has been a long and difficult year for many of us, and some will struggle to have any kind of Christmas for their families.
But for many of us, there is always a little something extra in our pockets — and in our hearts — to help provide for those in need.
