The good book led to a bad end for two Brewton men, police said.
Police arrested two suspects Tuesday after officers found marijuana and drug paraphernalia hidden in a Bible in a vehicle, Sgt. Bryan Davis said.
Officers searched the vehicle after a traffic stop.
Christopher Stallworth, 25, of Sellers Street, was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Michael Crook, 44, of 1310A Sowell Road, was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cpl. Andrew Casey made the traffic stop on a vehicle on Martin Luther King Drive and identified the passengers in the back seat as Stallworth and Crook. Davis said the charge of tampering with physical evidence against Stallworth came after Casey noticed something unusual about the suspect.
Davis said Stallworth was asked to spit out the marijuana and he complied with the officer.
Both Stallworth and Crook were taken to the Escambia County Detention Center. Each was released on $5,000 bond.
In a separate case, Kevin Campbell, 22, of Montgomery Street, was arrested following a grand jury indictment, Davis said. The suspect was arrested at his residence at Cedar Forrest Apartments in the Alco community.
Davis said the indictment was the culmination of an undercover investigation by offices in the Brewton Narcotics Division.
Campbell was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center and later released on $100,000 bond.
