Georgia-Pacific’s plan to increase assets at the Brewton mill by $2.4 million moved one step forward when Brewton City Councilmen approved a requested tax abatement.
Jason Daniel, director of public affairs at GP, said the abatement wouldn’t affect taxes paid into the county for education.
Broox Garrett, chairman of the Brewton Industrial Development Board, told the council the assets planned will help secure current jobs at the mill.
The project is one that will insure quality control for products manufactured by the machinery.
Daniel said the addition of the assets is one way GP officials are showing their commitment to the community.
Marshall Rogers, director of the Escambia County Industrial Development Authority, said the announcement of the asset improvements at GP is one her office is happy to hear.
