Cities join for Earth Day cleanup

Ready for some spring cleaning?
Brewton and East Brewton, along with the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, and Brewton City Council’s Earth Day Committee, will participate in Earth Day on Saturday, April 24.
Everyone in the Brewton-East Brewton area is encouraged to participate in the Earth Day Clean Up set for that day.
The Jay Landfill will be open between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., free of charge, for residents to dispose of electronics (televisions and computer components will cost $7 per item) and trash only, no household garbage or chemicals.
The City of East Brewton will have its trash truck available for East Brewton residents; call 867-7998 for pickup.
East Brewton City Clerk Karen Singleton said residents can call the street and sanitation department at 867-7998 to get the truck sent to their home to pick up the trash.
Michelle Hart at the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce said organizers in Brewton also expect good participation.
To dispose of:
Dumpsters will be located in various locations: Burnt Corn Creek Park, College Drive in Alco, parking lot behind the old Wal-Mart building and the corner of Sowell Road and Liles Boulevard.
All of these are limited to residents only, no businesses or commercial organizations.
