The Escambia County Probate Office reminds citizens that May 21 at 4 p.m. is the deadline for registering to vote for the June 1 primary election.
Also, the deadline for applying for an absentee ballot is Thursday, May 27.
Applications for absentee voting are available in the office of the Escambia County Circuit Clerk, Kenneth Taylor, who serves as the Absentee Election Manager for Escambia County. They may be returned by mail to Kenneth Taylor, P.O. Box 557, Brewton, AL 36427, or you may deliver your absentee ballot to the Office of the Circuit Clerk which is located on the second floor of the County Courthouse located at 301 Belleville Avenue in Brewton.
Any qualified voter may submit an absentee ballot application by mail or in person to the Absentee Election Manager’s Office for the following reasons:
Completed ballots must be returned by the voter in person to the Absentee Election Manager no later than 4 p.m. one day prior to the election, or if mailed through the United States Postal Service, must be postmarked no later than one day prior to the election.
There are several places within the county where individuals may register to vote, Probate Judge Emilie Mims said.
These include the Board of Registrars office at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton at 301 Belleville Avenue, or the Satellite Courthouse at 8600 Highway 31 in Atmore.
Voter registration applications are also available at the Department of Public Health, Department of Human Resources and at state driver license examiners’ locations. They may be mailed or delivered to the Board of Registrars at P.O. Box 557, Brewton, AL 36427.
Applications are also available online at the website of the Alabama Secretary of State. Click on the Elections button on the left side of the homepage and then on Download Forms. Voter registration forms are included in this list.
Individuals must meet the following requirements to be eligible to vote.
Voters who would like to update their voting information to reflect a change in name or address should contact the Board of Registrars at 251-867-0243. Additionally, if you had any problems voting in the previous election it is important to resolve those issues now, Mims said.
