The Brewton Thunder Little League softball team used eights hits and eight runs in the bottom of the last inning to come from behind and top the East Brewton Sunbirds 9-8.

The win for the Thunder improved them to 7-3 while the Sunbirds of East Brewton dropped to 7-2.

Prior to the final inning of play, the Sunbirds held the Thunder to three hits and one run and led 8-1.

With the score 8-5 and bases loaded and two outs, Chelsea Blount blasted a triple down the third base line driving in three runs to tie the game at 8-8.

With the game tied at eight, Molly Jackson ended the game with a walk off double, driving in the winning run.

Lizzy Pollitte went the distance on the mound for the Thunder and claimed the first win by a Brewton team over a very talented East Brewton team.

Blount led the Thunders bats, going 2-for-2 with a triple and double and three RBIs. Shanika Tinker, Brittney Warren, and Octavia Reed went 2-for-2 also.

Pollitte, Jackson, Jessica Day, Bailey Ellis, Natalie Clayton, and Tykeriah Powell, helped the cause with a hit each.

Haleigh Dubose took the loss for the Sunbirds with Adria Barnett, Kaeli Brown, and Ashlyn Graves going 2-for-2 at the plate.

Thunder 5, Heat 4

For the third time this season, the Thunder had to come from behind in the last inning to capture a win by one run against a very good Heat team.

This last game was no different and came down to the last play of the game, as the Thunder slipped by the Heat, in another close game, 5-4, at the Brewton YMCA Sports Park.

Earlier the Thunder won by scores of 12-11 and 6-5.

The Heat jumped out on top 4-1 in the first inning, getting four of their six hits, combined with two errors and three walks from the Thunder.

With the Heat leading 4-3 in the last inning, the Thunders lead off batter Brittney Warren led the inning off with a hit followed by Bailey Ellis.

Warren then stole home on a wild pitch to tie the score at 4-4.

That’s when the Heat’s pitcher, Taylor Austin, ran out of steam and walked the last three batters to send home Ellis for the winning score.

Lizzy Pollitte captured her eighth win of the season on the mound for the first place Thunder.

Helping her behind the plate was Molly Jackson, who with Jessica Day, Brittney Warren, and Bailey Ellis helped the cause, all getting a hit apiece. Kelsey Day was also a big player for the Thunder by limiting the Heats batters to only one base per hit, with great defensive plays in the outfield.

Taylor Austin gave up only four hits and iced four at the plate for the Heat. Shelby Mount went 2-for-2, with two RBIs.

Heather Spinks, Kathrine Benson, Emonea Curry, and Austin, all had hard singles for the Heat in the loss.
