An Atmore woman and an East Brewton man were injured in a two-vehicle accident just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 31 North.

According to Alabama State Trooper officials, Bridgett Louise Richardson 23, of Atmore was injured when the 1989 Oldsmobile she was driving was involved in the accident near the 6-mile marker of the northbound lanes of U.S. 31.

Troopers say Richardson was taken by Lifeflight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Family members said Friday afternoon that Richardson is a patient in the Adult Critical Care Unit, where her breathing is being done by ventilator.

“She has a lot of bumps, bruises and breaks,” an aunt said. “She needs a lot of prayers.”

Nathan Bryan Pugh, 20, of East Brewton was the driver of a 1987 pick-up truck and was also injured in the accident.

He was transported by ambulance to D.W. McMillan Hospital where he was treated and released.

Pugh’s father, Nathan, said his son is recovering at home from injuries sustained in the crash.

“He got a pretty good cut on his knee,” Pugh’s father said. “He’s got pretty bummed up but he’s going to be alright. The first thing he said to me was that he was sorry about my truck. That was the least of my worries. You can buy cars every day, but you can’t buy a life.”

Pugh said witnesses at the scene reported seeing the truck flip four times, at least once over the vehicle that struck it.

“They told us it looked like the car had a blow out,” Pugh said. “They said the car flipped at least two times.”

Witnesses said Richardson’s vehicle left the road and traveled briefly into the median. The car then returned to the roadway as a vehicle driven by Pugh entered the road at the intersection of Old Hwy. 31. Richardson’s vehicle struck the rear of Pugh’s truck and left the roadway again.

White’s Towing in Flomaton towed Pugh’s vehicle to their facility. Rapp’s Towing towed Richardson’s vehicle where it is being stored at their facility.

The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Willie Locke. No charges had been filed in the incident as of Friday.
