For those looking for a job or just interested in changing careers, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians’ Education Department is offering area residents a chance to see what opportunities exist in the job market across the region.
Billie McGhee, education coordinator for Poarch Band of Creek Indians, said next week’s career fair is the second event of its kind presented by the Tribe.
“We offered a career fair once before and are happy to have this second event,” McGhee said. “Based on attendance at the previous event we’re expecting around 100 or so visitors.”
The Tuesday, March 15 Career and College Fair will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. at the Poarch Creek Tribal courtroom. The courtroom is located in Building 300 off Calvin McGhee Drive at the Tribal headquarters property.
McGhee said several industrial, business and educational presenters will be on hand to answer questions and deliver information.
“We have 18 presenters confirmed,” McGhee said. “We are still being contacted by people who want to come here.”
McGhee said the event is open to the public and extended an invitation for anyone interested to attend.
“We want everyone to know they are welcome,” McGhee said. “This isn’t just for Tribal members. We hope to draw people from the Tribe and the community for this event. Anything that helps the community helps the Tribe. Anything we can do to keep everyone employed and operating is going to benefit the community and the Tribe.”
Business, college and university representatives will be on hand from the following: Austal ADIT, Allied Vocational Rehab School, Auburn University, Creek Indian Development Authority, David’s Paint and Body, Columbia University, Faulkner State University, Huntington College, Maritime Welding ADIT Program, Liberty National Insurance Company, PCI Gaming HR, University of South Alabama, Reid State Technical College, and Lynda Davis of the Reid State Ready to Work Program have committed to send their representatives.
McGhee said additional presenters may join the lineup before the Fair begins Tuesday.
“Anyone interested in employment or employment training is welcome,” McGhee said. “It’s an opportunity to come and talk with the organizations represented at our Career and College Fair.”
