The 2012 W.S. Neal baseball season was the season that everyone knew the Eagles would be pretty good. With many of the younger players in the past set to be upperclassmen, the Eagles would have experience.
Consider the 2011 season as jumpstart for next year as the Eagles capped off a perfect area season Friday at home with a 5-3 win over the Thomasville Tigers.
Needing just one win Friday at home after getting a win Thursday on the road at Thomasville, W.S. Neal got the win to finish their area schedule 8-0 and improve to 16-4 overall and clinch the area championship. In a game three later Friday night that saw many younger Eagles play, W.S. Neal lost 11-2 to fall to 16-5. The game three loss had no affect on the area standings.
“This is good for these kids,” W.S. Neal head baseball coach Coy Campbell said of the area championship. “I thought we were a year early but pretty much I thought we would have that shot this year. It was kind of like all year, as the kids just kept battling and battling back. They tied us up and we executed a squeeze play and Keith Bradley threw well for us for six innings and Dylan Godwin came in and got us out of the seventh. I just thought the kids played real hard. I am proud of them and they deserve it and deserve the credit. They have worked hard this year.”

WSN 5, Thomasville 3
With the game tied at 3-3 after the top of the sixth inning, W.S. Neal scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to get a two-run win in game one and clinch the area championship.
Both teams scored one run each in the second inning before W.S. Neal scored one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
After the visiting Tigers scored two in the top of the inning to tie the game at 3-3, Damion Williams executed a perfect squeeze bunt for the Eagles to score Monterius Culliver from third to take a 4-3 lead.
Dylan Godwin would drive in an insurance run for the Eagles later in the inning to propel them to the two-run win.
At the plate for the Eagles, Reid Johnson was 1-for-3 and Brian Settle was 2-for-3. Williams was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Godwin was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Keith Bradley earned the win on the mound for the Eagles pitching six innings allowing seven hits, three runs, one earned, walked none and struck out four.
Godwin went the final inning and allowed one hit batter and struck out two.

Thomasville 11, WSN 2
In game two Friday, Thomasville scored four runs in the first inning to help them get a nine run win over W.S. Neal, 11-2.
The Eagles were held to one run in the first and third innings while Thomasville added two in the third and fifth innings and three in the sixth to get the win.
Gary McGraw got the start on the mound and the loss. Five other Eagle pitchers pitched in the loss.
At the plate for W.S. Neal, Hunter Mullins was 1-for-3 and Bradley was 1-for-1. Johnson was 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI and Tyler Sawyer was 1-for-3.
