After five seasons as head volleyball coach at W.S. Neal High School, Lady Eagle head coach Britney Shelly has resigned. Current Eagle head softball coach Jeff Haney will replace Shelly.
Shelly said the recent addition to her family last year, a baby girl, was the reason behind her resignation.
“I resigned from coaching in order to spend more time with my family, especially my little girl,” Shelly said. “She will only be little once and I don’t want to miss anything. I have thoroughly enjoyed the competition and coaching some amazing young women.” Shelly said with the help and support of a lot of people, her teams have made the W.S. Neal volleyball program competitive.
“We accomplished many goals during my years there and I am extremely proud to have been apart of it all,” Shelly said. “With that being said I know that coach Haney will continue to move our program in the right direction. He is excited and ready for the challenge. I want to thank all of the administration at W.S. Neal (elementary, middle, and high) for their support of my girls and me throughout the years. I especially want to thank Mike Stone for all of his help. I look forward to coming back and watching the program continue to succeed. Go Eagles.”
Haney said he is very excited to be the new volleyball Coach at W.S. Neal.
“Coach Shelly has done a good job with the program and left it in great shape,” Haney said. “I decided to give up football after 12 seasons to spend more time with my family. When the opportunity to coach volleyball came up, it offered me a way to continue to coach during the fall and still allowing me some time with my family. I am fortunate that I know quite a few of the players because I coach them during softball season. I am looking forward to the challenge of coaching a sport that I have never coached before. I know I have a lot to learn, but I will work hard to continue the success of W.S. Neal volleyball. I want to thank Coach Shelly for all her help and guidance.”
