A sudden severe thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon brought heavy wind, rain and even hail to the Brewton area.

Trees were down — not only blocking roads but also downing power lines in at least one location and landing on two homes, one in the Alco area and one on a model house at Timberline Homes.

Timberline employees said the model house had been on display for only about a month.

Emergency crews were busy on the scene in several locations to direct traffic around downed trees and through intersections.

“We had trees down, power lines down, medical alerts going off and even a snake in a car,” Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver said.
