Officials with the Alabama Highway Patrol are still investigating a two-car accident that took the lives of a woman and her young son in the McCall community just outside Brewton last Friday.
The accident occurred at 4:10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 on County Road 25 in McCall.
It left Chastity Hutchcraft, 27, and her son Lane Hutchcraft, 5, dead.
Sgt. Marty Griffin with the Alabama Highway Patrol said that investigators were still piecing together the details surrounding the accident.
Chastity Hutchcraft was a substitute teacher with the Escambia County Schools, and was also active in youth baseball activities and a member of the McCall Volunteer Fire Department.
Lane was a pre-school student at First Baptist Church of Flomaton.
Funeral services for Chastity and Lane Hutchcraft were held yesterday at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Brewton. A number of fire trucks and other emergency vehicles were part of the procession.
The wreck that took the mother and son's lives was among the first in a weekend filled with accidents on the roads and highways of Alabama.
According to reports in the Mobile Register, nine people died on state roads over the weekend.
Among them was 83-year-old Vernon Bosserman, of Bradenton, whose vehicle veered into oncoming traffic when he suffered a heart attack behind the wheel near Loxley. Also killed was Bobby Jo Foster, 22, of Mobile, who was killed when his motorcycle was involved in an accident with another vehicle near Wilmer.
Both those accidents occurred on Saturday. Sunday, there were a number of other accidents around the state, including in Lawrence County, Boldo, Mobile County and Winston County.
