The Brewton Police Department is warning those driving 18-wheelers and log trucks down Belleville Avenue and other residential streets in the city that they may face stiff fines if caught.
The problem has been especially bad with log trucks, according to Brewton Police Chief David Lovelace.
Lovelace said that he has seen log trucks driving down Belleville and other residential streets himself, while out walking at night.
The designated truck routes in the city, Lovelace said, are Highways 31 and 41. Pretty much everything between them is off-limits to trucks.
Truck drivers caught driving along streets that are off-limits to them can be charged with "violation of truck route," Lovelace said, and fined anywhere from $100 to $500.
The driver of pretty much any heavy, semi-type truck stands to be fined if caught driving down restricted streets, Lovelace said.
