BBR 14s go 2-2 at state tourney in Wetumpka

At the state tournament in Wetumpka, the Brewton Babe Ruth 14-year-olds finished with a 2-2 record.
The team opened the tournament with an 11-3 loss to West Alabama but rebounded with a 12-10 win over Tallassee.
In game three, Brewton lost to Satsuma 16-1 but ended the tournament with an 8-6 win over Wetumpka.
West Alabama 11, Brewton 3
After neither team scored through the first four innings, Brewton was outscored 11-3 in the final three innings to lose game one to West Alabama by eight.
West Alabama scored one run in the fifth and five runs each in the sixth and seventh while holding Brewton to one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
At the plate for Brewton, Keaton Parker was 1-for-3 and Chris Jones was 1-for-4.
Miles Powell went 2-for-4 with a double and Jones Manning was 1-for-2 followed by Todd Mayo and Alex O’Keane who both went 1-for-1 in the loss.
Brewton 12, Tallassee 10
In game two of the state tournament, Brewton held on for a 12-10 win over Tallassee.
After giving up five first inning runs to Tallassee, Brewton went on to scored two in the second and third innings, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth to take an 11-5 lead.
Leading by six, Brewton gave up five more runs to Tallassee in the bottom of the sixth to see their lead cut to 11-10. Brewton would add one run in the seventh to get the win by two.
At the plate, Powell was 3-for-5 with one RBI and Chris Jones was 2-for-5 with five RBIs, a double and a homerun.
Tyler Joyner was 2-for-5 with one RBI and Rob Jones was 1-for-5.
Manning was 1-for-4 followed by Tyler Reid who was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Mayo who was 2-for-4.
Satsuma 16, Brewton 1
Against Satsuma, Brewton was held to two hits and one run as they lost by 15 to Satsuma, 16-1.
Powell and Reid were both 1-for-2 in the loss for Brewton. Brewton’s lone run came in the third inning while Satsuma scored six in the first, four in the second and five in the fourth.
Brewton 8, Wetumpka 6
In their final game, Brewton went out a winner as they defeated Wetumpka 8-6.
Brewton led 2-0 after two innings, but saw Wetumpka take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third. Brewton tied the game in the bottom of the inning with one run and then added three in the fourth and two in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead. Wetumpka closed the gap to 8-6 in the top of the sixth, but Brewton hung on for the win by two.
At the plate, Powell was 2-for-4 with two double and two RBIs and Reid was 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Chris Jones batted 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI and Joyner was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Manning had one RBI in the win and Mayo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Nick Laster was 1-for-2 and Dylan Etheridge was 1-for-1.
