Lisa Thomas -- Brewton resident and founder of Carlisa, Inc. -- left the Escambia County Courthouse last Thursday morning, bound for Montgomery and determined to get there by foot. Her goal was to raise awareness of the plight of the poor and elderly and to deliver a letter on that topic directly to Gov. Riley.
Thomas said she walked the furthest that first day, but maintained a pace of 20 miles or more each day after that to arrive at the Capitol this Wednesday. Her route along Hwy. 31 was about 110 miles long.
Accompanied by a friend in a truck, she walked through rain on the second day, was chased by dogs and had to be careful to stay out of traffic the whole trip.
Though the Governor was in a meeting when Thomas arrived, she delivered her letter to his office and a representative from his office called her Wednesday night.
