The Escambia County Commission is seeking more flexibility in its economic development efforts.
On Monday, the commission approved the signing of a resolution supporting a bill in front of the state Legislature that would give counties more flexibility. Among the restraints cited by counties now, is that state law requires them to receive fair market value for land sold to new businesses starting or relocating to the county. County and city-owned industrial parks in the state are at a disadvantage against other states that allow such sales, proponents say.
So far, 18 counties in the state have approved the resolution asking for passage of the bill.
