Mrs. Elvira Minge Cochrane McMillan, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Tuscaloosa and had been a resident of Brewton since 1938. She graduated from the University of Alabama and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a founding member of her home parish, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, and a charter member of Escambia County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. McMillan; a son-in-law, Albert C. Tate Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann McMillan; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Owens.
She is survived by three sons, Ed Leigh McMillan, Thomas E. McMillan Jr. and Robert C. McMillan, all of Brewton; two daughters, Katherine M. Owens of Brewton and Elvira M. Tate of Atlanta, Ga.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 12:30 p.m. at Union Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Baldwin officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Miss Elvira Outreach Fund at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or Wilmer Hall Children's Home in Mobile.
