Aviation enthusiasts will have an opportunity to see the object of their enjoyment this weekend at the Middleton Airport in Evergreen.

The South East Regional Fly In, SERFI, will be held Friday through Sunday and will include nearly 250 aircraft, safety programs, awards, an air parade and even a flea market.

Beginning Friday at noon, judging for the presented aircraft will be held and include aircraft ranging from ultra lights and home builds, kit plants to antiques and production. Pilots from eight states are expected to display aircraft in 13 classes. Champion and Reserve Champions will be awarded in each class.

A 7 p.m. presentation of the FAASTeam Safety program will include Wright Brothers Master Pilot and Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Awards. Pilots who have achieved 50 years of safe flight and lifetime accomplishments of senior mechanics will be honored in a special ceremony headed by FAA Safety Program Manager Billy Hattaway.

Special flights will be available for a fee in a 1928 Bird of Paradise biplane.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, a parade of airplanes will be presented in a fly-by show and will include a variety of planes. Following the parade, Young Eagles rides for children 8 to 18 will be offered by the EAA chapter from Shelby County.

In addition to the fly in activities and events a flea market and a juried car show will also be held through Sunday. Aviation displays, exhibits and aircraft owners will also be on hand. Food and drink vendors will have items available during the event.

Aircraft and car show awards will be presented at 6 p.m. Saturday at the SERFI buffet banquet in the Big Red Hangar. Cost of the event is $5 with tickets available throughout the day.

Shuttle service will be offered to and from the airport from downtown Evergreen by the Evergreen-Conecuh County Chamber of Commerce.

Admission is $5 daily or $10 for the entire weekend for adults. Children under 12 will be admitted free with a parent of guardian.

Middleton Airport is located two miles west of I-65 on U.S. 84.
