The tendency of Christians is to focus on the glory of the future. Meanwhile, there are ailments, adversities, problems and trials, and all of these matters cause us to ask, "What do I do now? Where do I find help until I go to glory?"
The Bible reveals God's interest in helping man. Psalm 46:1 teaches, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in a time of trouble." We can go boldly to God's throne to find help in a time of need according to Hebrews 4:16. Psalm 121:2 declares, "My help comes from the Lord…" The simple truth is God helps His people. The intriguing question is how does God help His people?
God helps people through yourself. Sometimes, the nearest helping hand is at the end of your wrist. We want God to bail us out of binds, but effort to do for ourselves is needed. God promised Israel the Promised Land, but they still had to take up arms and fight.
God helps through the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26 discloses, "The Spirit helps in our weaknesses." When Christians are at wits' end in praying and trying to solve situations, the Holy Spirit does praying for them.
God helps through the steadiness of His presence. He never forsakes His children. Knowing God is with believers instills strength to face life's foes.
God helps through scripture. The Holy Bible addresses life's issues such as fear in Psalm 55:3, anxiety in Philippians 4:6, personal confusion in Proverbs 3:5-6, doubt in II Timothy 1:12, discouragement in Psalm 42:6, facing evil in Romans 12:21, loneliness in Psalm 23, sickness in II Corinthians 12:9, sin in I John 1:9 and sorrow in II Corinthians 1:3. Read the Bible and get help for living.
God helps through timely blessings. God picks opportune times at needful moments to give us a lift. Paul faced extreme adversity in life and God offered him encouragement on occasions recorded in Acts 18:9-10, Acts 22:21, Acts 23:11 and Acts 26:22. God aids.
God helps through the testimonies of Christians. Associate yourself with godly people. Listen to their stories of God helping them in life. You'll be empowered.
One day a Texan was in a Boston restaurant bragging about heroes like Sam Houston and Davey Crockett. A Bostonian got tired of the boasting about the great men from Texas. He confronted the Texan with the words, "All great men didn't come from Texas. Have you ever heard of Paul Revere?" "Yes," said the Texan, "Isn't he the man who ran for help?"
There is no disgrace in running to God for help. If a person who amounts to anything in life is honest, he'll admit he's a lot like a turtle on a fence post. Any time you see a turtle on a fence post, you'll know he had help getting there. God helps His people.
