Mr. George Morton, 84, of Barnetts Cross Roads, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at his residence after an extended illness. He was a native of Atmore and a life-long resident of Barnetts Cross Roads. He was a member of Cannan Freewill Baptist Church, the Mason Lodge, a farmer and a retired heavy equipment operator from St. Regis Paper Company with 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Morton and Henry Morton and a sister, Anna Lee Morton.
He is survived by his wife, Luverne Fillmore Morton of Barnetts Cross Roads; a son, John Morton II of Barnetts Cross Roads; a daughter, Charlotte Grant of Barnetts Cross Roads; a brother, Jesse Morton; a sister, Allimae Morton Fillmore; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with speaker Kevin Fillmore and Bro. Clyde Bruley officiating. Burial with Masonic services followed at New Bethlehem Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
