Beginning Jan. 1, room rates at the three county hospitals will increase $8 per day as the result of a vote of approval by the Escambia County Hospital Board Dec. 19. The following room rates were approved: semi-private – $76 at all three hospitals; standard private – $82 for patients of Greenlawn and Abernathy and $81.50 for patients at McMillan; deluxe private – $87 at Greenlawn and Abernathy and $83.50 at McMillan.
Members of the 'Two Hands' musical group are David Bell, Alan Harp and John Mashburn.
The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that the East Brewton City Council has the power to prohibit the mayor from signing checks drawn on the city's bank account and can assign the duty to someone else.
Eddie Graves and Becky Coale were named "Mr. S.A.F.E." and "Miss Safe" at T.R. Miller High School. The two seniors will represent T.R. Miller in the district competition of Student Action for Education.
