One of Escambia County's own has come back home to be the new dean of student affairs at Jefferson Davis Community College.
David Jones graduated from Escambia County High School in 1984 and went on to college at Montevallo. Deciding to stay in education, Jones worked at several colleges in the state before coming to JDCC from Trenholm State Technical College in Montgomery.
As the dean of student affairs, Jones oversees several departments, including admissions, financial aid, housing, athletics and other non-business, non-instructional areas.
Jones started Monday and said he had to hit the ground running with spring registration and the opening of the spring term.
As for enrollment, Jones said he expects it to remain pretty steady.
Jones said he stepped into a system though that was already being run properly.
Jones said his first major task is to tackle student housing and to insure it is being run with good policies and procedures.
Jones and his wife, Moira, plan to relocate to Brewton in the near future.
