Council approves corporate home ordinance

The Brewton City Council this week voted unanimously in favor of adding a new section in the land use and development ordinance, ultimately regulating the operation and use of corporate/business homes within the city limits.
Councilman Walter Lewis was absent from the meeting.
In December, Planning Commission members unanimously voted in favor of the ordinance. At that meeting, staff recommended that the ordinance not allow weddings and receptions in the corporate homes.
The new ordinance was adopted to enforce and penalize any violation of the city's law which states that corporate and business residences to be permitted in R-1, R-2 or R-3 residential districts, provided certain conditions be met.
The issue was brought to the Planning Commission in an effort to address and categorize appropriate zoning laws for corporate business homes.
According to Diurno, there are approximately three residential homes in the city that house corporate clients.
