Employees of Jefferson Davis Community College "went red" on Friday as part of the American Heart Association's "Wear Red Day," designed to bring attention to the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
Employees donated money to the American Heart Association and purchased "wear red" lapel pins. They raised approximately $600 for the Heart Association.
Kelly Warren, regional director for the local AHA office, said, "Wear Red Day is an opportunity for everyone to remember their female friends and family members who have suffered from heart disease. It's also a time to think about their own hearts and take charge of their own health."
The American Heart Association designates the month of February as "heart month"
