Hurricane Ivan has put a major delay on a lot of projects, but East Brewton city employees can now be heard throughout town carrying an extra jingle in their pockets.
During Monday evening's City Council meeting, council members unanimously voted in favor of a three percent pay increase for all full-time city employees.
City employees were supposed to receive the raise at the beginning of the fiscal year, but the hurricane took a majority of the city's saved funds.
The council members, as well as the mayor, had to look over payroll to make sure they were fully funded to unanimously vote in favor of the pay raise. City employees will now see an increase of $3 for every $100 made per week.
In other council news, the council members decided the chime at East Brewton Methodist Church was not a city problem and it is completely out of its hands.
Despite David F. Elliott's persistent complaints to the council, Mayor Terry Clark told an audience of two that the problem is no longer his or the council's. Elliott did not attend Monday's City Council meeting.
