A man and woman believed to be attempting to toss contraband over a fence and into Fountain Correctional Facility were detained Monday morning near the prison.
According to Alabama Department of Corrections Public Information Manager Brian Corbett the female was detained and the male, Edward Bonner, arrested when authorities nabbed him with contraband and what was believed to be marijuana in his possession.
Corbett said the female subject was on foot near the prison’s fence line while Bonner was found in a nearby vehicle.
“There was a person sighted on foot at approximately 12:10 a.m. Monday,” Corbett said. “As we began to investigate a car was spotted possibly waiting to pick up this person on foot.”
Corbett said it took less than an hour for local authorities to apprehend both suspects.
“About 12:50 a female suspect was detained,” he said. “There was later a suspect detained by the name of Edward Bonner. He was found to have in his possession a pink purse wrapped in Duct Tape. The purse had eleven cell phones, four cell phone chargers and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.”
Corbett said Bonner was turned over to deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
