What little girl isn't awed and dazzled by Miss America, Miss Alabama, or any beautiful ”grown-up“ performing on stage?
Lots of little girls – and some who are young at heart – will have the opportunity to be awed and inspired this week when the Great Brewton Council on the Arts and the Curtis Finlay Foundation present a free event at Jefferson Davis Community College featuring Miss America Deidre Downs, Miss Alabama Alexa Jones, and former Miss Alabama Catherine Crosby. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Thursday.
It's important for young people to note that, in addition to being beautiful and talented, these young women also are very bright. Miss Downs has been accepted to medical school and was selected as Miss America on her platform of curing childhood cancer. Miss Jones is completing a master's degree in art history at the UAB and has a platform of enhancing arts education.
It's sure to be an enjoyable evening for young and old, so make plans to attend. And be sure to express your appreciation to the Arts Council for making events such as this one possible for our community.
