Brewton native and award-winning author A. Faye Boykin will return to her hometown on Saturday for a special book signing and unveiling of her latest book, "Gold On Your Fingertip: Stop Sittin' on Your Assets."
The Brewton Public Library will host Boykin in conjunction with Women's History Month from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
In addition to signing copies of her latest work, Boykin will speak and lead a question and answer session.
Boykin was the salutatorian of the Southern Normal High School Class of 1978. She then went to Tuskegee University where she graduated with honors in social work. While at Tuskegee, Boykin often held speaking engagements and wrote for the "Campus Digest."
Boykin said her latest book is designed to help and encourage people to stop feeling sorry for themselves and work to improve their situations and solve their problems.
Boykin was born in Brewton to the late Arthur Lee Dale Sr. and Zenobia Woodson-Dale. Her mother and sister, Glenda Gant, both are current residents of Brewton.
Following her graduation from Tuskegee, Boykin spent almost 20 years in Dallas before returning to Alabama to assist with the care of her mother. She fled what she describes as a "volatile marriage" and is a self-described "survivor." She said her daily prayers entails thanking God for being a "kept woman."
Upon becoming a published writer, Boykin was boosted to national prominence after appearing on television shows such as "Insights with Carla Winfrey," "Positively Texas," Coffee Break in Baltimore with Frank Ski," and "Good Morning, Alabama." She has also become a regular commentator on WXVI radio in Montgomery, which is where she currently resides.
Boykin has received numerous awards during her career including: "Who's Who in the World 2001," by Marquis Publication, two-time recipient of the Key to the City of Birmingham, 1999 Proclamation to the City of Mesquite, Texas, 1983 Outstanding Young Women of America and 1981 Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities in America.
Boykin is currently active with Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Beta Nu Omega Chapter, Montgomery-Tuskegee Alumni Club, the Domestic Violence Task Force and Toastmasters International.
Boykin is the mother of one son, Joseph Anthony Carter III.
