JDCC spiker lands position on All-Region
Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks outside hitter Tiffany Andersen has landed a spot on the All-Region 22 Second Team for the 2005 season.
Andersen, a 5-9 sophomore from Navarre (Fla.), led the Lady Warhawks in attacks (458), kills (125) and assisted blocks (17). Andersen ranked second on the Lady Warhawks in solo blocks to Lashundra Cluasell with 17.
Gadsden State's Katie Ball was selected the Region 22 Player of the Year.
The rest of the First Team included Wallace State-Hanceville's Rachel Fleming, Shana Borden and Candace Rouse, Gadsden State's Pia Scott and Whitney Burt, Northwest Shoals' Ivory Leonard and Amanda Smith, Bevill State-Fayette's Ashley Hughes, Faulkner State's Wendy Rabb, Southern Union's Kasey Mims and Central Alabama's Sharetta Riggins.
Joining Andersen on the All-Region Second Team were Northwest Shoals' Raven Winn and Haley Booker, Southern Union's Tasha Moore, Central Alabama's Brittany Shears, Dominique Smith and Cheryl Salter, Bevill State-Fayette's Sheena Fletcher and Faulkner State's Kellie Sorrells.

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers basketball team has drawn a first-round matchup against Niceville (Fla.) in the opening round of the Emerald Coast Classic hosted by Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach (Fla.).
That game is a rematch of last year's championship contest where T.R. Miller knocked off Niceville 40-34 in overtime.
T.R. Miller and Niceville will hook up on Thanksgiving Day (November 24) at 5 p.m. It is the second of four first-round games that will be played that day.
Pensacola (Fla.) and Campbell (Ga.) square off in the opening game at 3:30 p.m. followed by the T.R. Miller-Niceville contest. Escambia County and host Choctawhatchee hook up at 6:30 p.m. followed by the final first-round game between Crestview (Fla.) and Moss Point (Miss.) at 8 p.m.
The second round will be November 25. If T.R. Miller beats Niceville, it will play the Choctawhachtee-Escambia County winner at 6:30 p.m. If the Lady Tigers fall to Niceville, they will play the Choctawhatchee-Escambia County loser at 3:30 p.m.
The final round of play will be November 26 with the seventh place game at 3:30 p.m., the fifth place game at 5 p.m., the third place game at 6:30 p.m. and the championship game slated for 8 p.m.
The start of the Brewton Middle School basketball season has been delayed by a week due to a pair of cancellations.
BMS was supposed to have opened its season last Thursday with a road trip to Evergreen Thurgood Marshall. The Evergreen school was also supposed to open up the home portion of the BMS Monday. Both of those games have been cancelled.
BMS is now slated to open the season this Thursday at Atmore. The home opener is now November 17 against Flomaton. Play starts for both of those dates with the girls game at 5 p.m. followed by the boys game at approximately 6 p.m.
