While both the Brewton Middle School girls and boys basketball teams were in involved in lopsided decisions in Thursday's season opener at Escambia County, they came at opposite ends of the spectrum.
The Lady Tigers opened up their portion of the schedule with a decisive 31-13 victory.
Brewton accounted for a large portion of that margin of victory in the opening quarter when
it raced out to an 11-1 advantage.
The Lady Tigers still had that 10-point lead of 17-7 at halftime before it added to that cushion in the second half. Brewton had a 7-3 scoring edge in the third quarter to widen the lead to 24-10 and finished things off with another 7-3 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Kiya Smith led the Lady Tigers with 15 points, while Janel McCorvey also reached double digits with 10.
Meanwhile the Tigers dropped a 68-35 decision to the Atmore school.
Escambia County led from start to finish, as it had quarter leads of 19-11, 32-19 and 52-26 en route to the win.
Derrick Riley was the lone Tiger to reach double figures with 12 points.
Brewton will be back in action Monday when it travels to W.S. Neal. Play starts with the girls game at 5 p.m.
