Buy tickets, support arts
The Brewton Arts Council is selling season tickets and again this year we are struggling. We have no ticket booth in town that we sell from. We do not have air time on a television station program. We do not have a big budget to do a media blitz. We depend on members that volunteer their time to make phone calls to prospective ticket holders (a job most people are uncomfortable doing). It would be great if people just saw the season ticket brochure and called for tickets.
That is what I am encouraging YOU to do this year. Just pick up the phone and support the Arts Council. A season ticket (Covering all Shows) is only $20 for seniors, only $25 for a single adult and only $45 for a family. You don't have to do the math to know that's a great bargain. This year we'll have The Auburn University Singers on Jan. 24, 2006, a group of 32 singers and nine instrumentalists; The Tommy Dorsey Band performing in late February of 2006 by a generous gift from The Curtis Finlay Foundation; Mame, on March 7, 2006, a banquet of life, and one of the liveliest, happiest and most entertaining musicals of Broadway's golden age.
You get great entertainment and you're also helping support all the FREE things the Arts Council sponsors for the community – the YOUTH ART SHOW in the spring; a performance of The Prince and the Pauper on March 2, 2006 for the students at Flomaton, Neal and Brewton Elementary; there was a production this past Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005 of The Little Red Hen for preschool and kindergarten children; Christmas in the Park; and Christmas decorations in the hospital. In addition if you purchase a patron's ticket ($100/family or $50/individual) you support the college scholarship that is given annually.
