A Brewton teen was injured Friday night when his vehicle went over the Burnt Corn Creek Bridge on Hwy. 31, and a Wing teen was injured in an unrelated wreck Sunday.
According to Capt. James Hicks with the Brewton Police Department, Richard Keath Turner, 18, of Brewton, was driving south on Hwy. 31, Friday, Dec. 30, when he lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet pickup.
The accident occurred on the bridge over Burnt Corn Creek at approximately 8:39 p.m. Turner's vehicle went through the concrete guardrail on the south-bound lane of Hwy. 31. The truck fell onto the creek bank below the bridge.
Turner was transported to D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to a Pensacola hospital with unknown injuries. The accident is still under investigation by the Brewton Police Department.
On Jan. 1, Alton King, a teenager from Wing, was injured when his vehicle was involved in an unrelated accident at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Hwy. 29, east of Brewton. The extent of his injuries were unknown press time. The accident is under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
The Alabama Department of Public Safety's traffic fatality prediction for New Year's was that 16 people would die in traffic crashes in Alabama during the 78-hour period from 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, through midnight Monday, Jan. 2, 2006. Only seven traffic fatalities were reported statewide.
