Two individual first place marks and a first place relay team paved the way to a third place finish for the T.R. Miller Tigers track team in the Class 1A-4A division at the state indoor track meet held at Priceville over the weekend.
T.R. Miller tallied 42 points in the competition. UMS-Wright nosed out Altamont 77-76 for the overall team title.
Senior Antonio Gomez was involved in all three T.R. Miller victories. Gomez claimed the long jump at 20-9 1/2 and the 55 meter hurdles at 7.92. Gomez was also the anchor man on the Tigers first place 800 meter relay team that also included Bradley McCreary, Mikel Riggs and Briddell Jones. That tandem won that race with a time of 1:36.87.
T.R. Miller's next best place came from Fred Samuel in the shot put where he was third with a throw of 44-3.
Riggs came with an eyelash of a third place mark in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.84. He missed third place by one hundredth of a second to finish fourth.
Jason McCreary gave T.R. Miller a double place in the 55 meter hurdles with Gomez where he came in fifth with a time of 8.89.
T.R. Miller did not score in the girls competition and had only three participants.
Crystal Higdon and Courtney Scott tied for the best finish, as each was 12th in their respective event. Higdon had a time of 6:18.39 in the 1600 meters, while Scott had a throw of 24-3 1/2 in the shot put.
