Up 2-0 after two sets against Flomaton Monday, the last thing W.S. Neal head coach Jeff Haney, his team and fans wanted to see was the game go to five sets. That is just what happened as the Lady Eagles lost the third and fourth sets but won the fifth set tiebreaker to improve to 2-0 this season with a 3-2 win over the Lady Canes.
In the fourth set, W.S. Neal led 24-17 before falling 26-24 to see Flomaton tie the game at 2-2.
“We got up 2-0 and we really have not been in that situation a lot against a good team. Flomaton has been good in the past and has given us fits. I don’t know if it was we just didn’t know how to react or what. One of our seniors was sick. She played the third set sick the whole time and made it through that but she didn’t think she could finish it so we had to sub for her. We only have eight players on the roster so we don’t have a lot of bench depth. I think we got a little tired there in the fourth. We had it in the fourth and had it at set point, but could just not break their serve to get the win. We had a little talk and we decided that we wanted it there in the fifth set. We got a big lead early with a 9-0 lead and to win that fifth set was big. We were able to get the win and the sweep of Flomaton. I don’t know what this hurricane will do and hopefully we will get to play and if we do, we will be ready to go against (T.R.) Miller on Thursday.”
W.S. Neal won set one 25-21 and set two 25-19. In set three, W.S. Neal lost 25-11 and they lost set four 26-24. In the fifth set, W.S. Neal won 15-5.
In other action Monday night in Flomaton, the W.S. Neal Middle School volleyball team started their season 1-0 as they took set one 25-8 and set two 25-11.
In JV action Monday, W.S. Neal won 2-0 to improve to 2-0. W.S. Neal won set one 25-7 and set two 25-17.
W.S. Neal was scheduled to play in Atmore Tuesday—weather permitting. The Lady Eagles will host T.R. Miller Thursday at 4 p.m. with the middle schools, JV and varsity teams playing.

WSNMS 2, Flomaton 0
W.S. Neal jumped out to early leads in sets one and two to propel them to a 2-0 win over Flomaton in middle school action.
In set one, W.S. Neal jumped out to an 8-0 lead early and led 22-5 late before winning 25-8.
Caitlyn Stuckey led W.S. Neal in set one with eight straight service points and Meme Lawson had four points and one ace. Haleigh Dubose had four points and Kayla Ball had two points.
In set two, W.S. Neal jumped out to another 8-0 lead early and lead 14-2 and 24-9 late before winning 25-11.
Dinah Samuel finished with 10 service points and two aces while Lawson had four points and one ace. Jashira Dees had two points and Taylor Stewart and Dubose had one point each.

WSN JV 2, Flomaton 0
In JV action Tuesday, the JV Lady Eagles used big leads early to improve to 2-0 this season.
In set one, W.S. Neal led 8-0 and 22-1 en route to a 25-7 win.
Madison Winchester led with 13 straight service points and Brittany Lucas had seven straight service points with one ace. Emily Ann Cooper finished with one service points.
In set two, W.S. Neal led 9-0 early and held on for a 25-17 win.
Lucas led with 13 service points and one ace. Lucas had nine straight service points at one time. Tiffany Robinson finished with one point and DonNavia had four service points with one ace.

WSN varsity 3, Flomaton 2
In varsity action Monday night, W.S. Neal saw leads of 2-0 and a set point in set four vanish before winning the tiebreaker in the fifth set to improve to 2-0 this season.
In set one, W.S. Neal broke a 21-all tie late to win 25-21.
Tiffany Sawyer led with four service points and one ace. Gracee Dixon had two points while Jodi Busby finished with two points and one kill. Stephanie Lambert finished with one service point, one kill and one block while Kaitlin Hadaway had one point.
In set two, W.S. Neal trailed early before breaking a 14-14 tie to win 25-19.
Busby led with four points and one ace while Dixon and Lambert had three points and one ace. Sawyer had two points while Hadaway and Tykeria Nolan had one point each. Jasmine Crook finished with one kill.
In set three, Flomaton held W.S. Neal to only 11 points while claiming a 25-11 win.
Dixon and Lambert had one point each while Crook had one kill.
In set four, W.S. Neal led 24-17 before Flomaton reeled off nine straight points to grab a 26-24 win.
In the loss, Sawyer led with four points, three aces and one kill. Busby had three points and one kill, Hadaway had three points and Nolan had three points and one ace. Crook finished with one kill.
In the fifth set, W.S. Neal jumped out to a 9-0 lead before seeing Flomaton cut the lead to 9-5. From that point, W.S. Neal scored six straight points to win 15-5.
Dixon led with nine straight service points and one ace while Busby added five points and three aces. Hadaway and Crook had two kills each.
