Mrs. Grace Jernigan Murphy, 97, died April 21, 2006. She was a native of Dixonville, the youngest child of Benjamin Lomax and America Ann Cobb Jernigan. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence, Tom, Ben and Herb Jernigan, all of the Brewton area; her sisters, Agnes Dean, Helen McCall and Alma Peavy; her husband, Armand “Pat” Murphy and her son, Armand Murphy Jr. She was a well-known manager of a gift shop in Town and Country Mall in Pensacola for nearly 30 years. She has also been a fashion model and taught music. She had been a resident of Independence since 2000 and was a member of the Community of Christ Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Shemenek of Columbus, Ga., and Kathy Murphy (Roger A.) Revell of Liberty, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Carmen Murphy of Smiths, Ala.; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at Dixonville Community of Christ Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Dixonville Community Cemetery Association.
