A seventeen-year-old male is dead and his step father is in jail on murder charges after a shooting incident Saturday night on Pleasant View Drive near the Nokomis and Perdido communities.
According to information from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 call was received Saturday at approximately 9:20 p.m. reporting a shooting at 394 Pleasant View Drive.
Once on the scene, deputies discovered the teenager deceased on the floor from an apparent gun shot wound. The suspect, James Allan Bethea, 54, was also in the residence and still armed.
Deputies called for immediate back up and Lieutenant Adam Johnson was able to make verbal contact with Bethea, at which point he exited the home unarmed and was taken into custody without incident.
Bethea was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Department said they believe the incident was the result of a domestic altercation between Bethea, his wife and the minor.
Bethea has been charged with one count of murder and officials said the case is still under investigation and will presented to a Grand Jury in Escambia County.
