The Escambia County Commission will hold a special meeting Friday to discuss raises for county jail officers.
Sheriff Grover Smith asked the commission last month to consider granting a raise to jail officers and allow him to hire an extra six officers.
Chairman David Stokes said Monday that commissioners seemed to be leaning toward some type of raise, but he did not know how much it would be.
Commissioner Larry White, who had missed a previous work session on the issue, said he was not ready to discuss the raise Monday. And with Commissioner Wiley Tait not at Monday's meeting, the other commissioners agreed to table the issue.
