Brewton drivers may experience some traffic changes in coming weeks - but in the end they'll have newly paved roads.
A portion of U.S. Highway 41 between Rankin and Underwood streets is currently closed while city crews move the utilities to make way for a state-funded culvert project, Brewton Utilities Supervisor Ray Madden said.
After the city crews are finished, Bullard Construction has 65 days to complete the new culvert, Madden said.
Meanwhile, repaving on U.S. 31 is set to begin in about two and a half weeks, City Clerk John Angel said.
Madden said crews will begin at St. Nicholas Street and work south from the railroad tracks to the state line, then will repave Douglas Avenue.
The Alabama Department of Transportation had previously requested that traffic be rerouted down Evergreen while repaving work is done on Douglas between Evergreen and Underwood streets. Douglas will be paved from the railroad tracks to Tiger Drive.
Belleville Avenue will be repaved last, Madden said. City officials wanted to pave it last so that rerouted traffic won't be using it after the improvements are made, he said.
